Mr. Matthew Barton joined Future Pipe Industries Group (FPI) as General Counsel in December 2009. In this capacity he is responsible for the management of all legal matters within the business and the development and delivery of the company’s legal risk management strategy.
Prior to joining FPI, Mr. Barton was Company Secretary and General Counsel at Kier Group plc, one of the UK’s largest building and support services businesses, listed on the London Stock Exchange and member of the FTSE 250. During his five years at Kier, Mr. Barton established the legal function at the core of Kier’s risk management and strategic decision-making processes.
Mr. Barton has a degree in Business Law from City University, London and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, Guildford. He trained and qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 1998, whilst working at London law firm Simmons & Simmons. In 2000, Mr Barton moved to New York law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, for which he worked in London and Hong Kong. He was admitted to the New York bar in 2006.
