FPI is a leading manufacturer and supplier of Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy Pipe Systems (GRE) to the marine markets since 1984. Due to their excellent non corrosive characteristics, GRE pipe systems will last the life time of a ship. Meeting the classification societies’ rules and IMO regulations, GRE systems are specially designed for the use onboard of ships making it the material of choice.

    • Products

GRE is the ideal pipe system for the Marine market. Compared to galvanised steel, rubber lined steel and Cunifer, installation costs of GRE systems are lower due to their lightweight nature and ease of handling. Whereas steel pipe systems have typically to be replaced 2-3 times during the life time of the ship, GRE pipe system will last the full life time of the ship therefore reducing maintenance costs and total cost of ownership.

Fibermar pipe systems have been developed for external pressure up to 50 meter water column caused by a possible water head of liquid onboard ships.

Wavistrong pipe systems can be used in case external pressure is negligible.

Both systems are available from 25 mm (1") up to and including 1400 mm (64").

Diameters of 25 mm (1") up to, and including, 900 mm (36") are included in the classification type approvals. For larger diameters, special project approval from classification societies can be obtained.

In order to avoid build up of static electricity, both Fibermar and Wavistrong pipe systems are, besides to the standard version, available in a conductive version.

Jointing of the system can be effected by adhesive bonded joints, rubber seal (lock) joints, laminated joints, flanged joints or mechanical couplers.

Both Fibermar and Wavistrong system can be supplied as prefabricated spools. The use of these customized pipe sections are tailor-made to your requirements giving you the benefits of a shorter installation time and making installations under difficult conditions more feasible.

Besided pipe spools consisting out of standard components, we also manufacture special items

      Applications

GRE can be applied in a wide range of systems, among others:
      • Ballast water systems
      • Sea Water cooling systems
      • Gland & flushing systems (onboard dredgers)
      • Fire Fight systems
      • Black & grey water systems
      • Condensate lines
      • Inert gas effluent
      • Sounding & ventilation lines
      • Tank cleaning systems
      • Potable water systems
      • Ballast water treatment
      • Scrubber units

      Advantages

      • A long service life due to its non corrosive characteristics
      • Due to its lightweight nature (40% of steel) fibreglass pipe systems have lower installation costs
      • Lower operational costs due to no maintenance
      • As GRE pipe is easy to repair, maintenance costs will be low
      • Conductivity (if required), avoiding build up of static electricity
      • GRE is non hazardous for environment and personnel.

      Project Management

FPI is specialized in Turn Key Project Management. If required we will make sure that complete GRE systems will be installed including non GRE items such as steel bulk head penetrations and secondary steel. Pumps and valves are usually yard supply. As we have highly qualified supervisors and pipe fitters on our staff and well trained subcontractors, you are assured of a correct and successful installation. (This will give you peace of mind).

      Our project management services include:
      • Assistance with system design: type of connections, support plan, routing etc.
      • Isometric, spool & support drawings
      • Stress & surge analysis
      • Prefabrication of spools
      • Installation of system
      • Commissioning of system
      • Supervision during installation

      Marine Network & Contacts

FPI has set up a marine agent net work throughout Europe. We are represented in 19 European countries and are currently expanding into the Middle East, India, Asia, Australia, South Africa and the Americas.

All our agents are highly educated, trained and respected companies in their respective countries. Therefore you can be assured of sound (technical) advice and service when you work with them.

    • Retrofits

Despite the fact that steel pipes tend to corrode, they have been used onboard of ships for many years. During the lifetime of the ship, corroded steel pipes need to be replaced several times especially when the pipes are applied in sea water systems. It goes without saying that this is a costly and undesired situation. Furthermore replacing steel is a time consuming matter.

Instead of replacing the corroded steel pipes with steel, FPI’s Glassfiber Reinforced Epoxy Pipe Systems (GRE) is your preferred material as it has excellent non-corrosive characteristics. It is also the ideal material and product of choice for your retrofits. It is just simply ‘Fit & Forget’.

FPI’s Wavistrong and Fibermar pipe systems are very suitable to be applied onboard existing ships. The lightweight nature and the flexibility of the product make the installation easier and makes GRE the preferred material for retrofits.

Through our network of qualified sub contractors we are able to provide you with this service worldwide.

Please contact us should you like to know more about the retrofit possibilities with GRE, if you have any questions or if you want to receive a quotation. We will be happy to assist you.

      Training

Dedicated trainers provide 2-3 day installation and prefabrication trainings in our facility in The Netherlands or on site of our customers. Participants will obtain a certificate which is valid for two years. After expiring of the certificate, a refreshment course should be attended. Please contact us in case you require more information concerning our training program.

      IMO Resolution

In 1993 IMO adopted resolution A.753 (18) "guidelines for the use of plastic pipes onboard of ships". It stipulates in which systems & spaces it is allowed to apply GRE and in which systems & spaces it is not allowed to use GRE. It also stipulates design and installation criteria which need to be met.

In addition, fire requirements are determined in order to guarantee the safety of the ship crews and to guarantee safe operation of the ships.
