FPI group secures largest FRP Pipe supply contract in history worth $ 165 million
Doha, State of Qatar May 12, 2006
The Future Pipe Group announced that its Qatar subsidiary; Future Pipe Industries-Qatar has been awarded a contract to supply large diameter Fiberglass pipe to the Ras Laffan Industrial city worth US $ 165 million. It is believed to the world’s largest supply contract in history for Fiberglass (FRP) pipe, making the FPI group the undisputed global leader in the manufacture of large diameter Fiberglass pipe.
The contract is for the Phase 2 expansion of the common seawater cooling facility at Ras Laffan from its current capacity of 308,000 m3/hr to 650,000 m3/hr. The end user for the cooling water facility is Qatar Petroleum (QP), and the project’s consultant is France’s Technip. The State of Qatar has the world’s largest reserves of pure natural gas of nearly 25 trillion cubic meters ( 900 trillion cubic feet), and the Ras Laffan city is home to some of the largest LNG trains and GTL complexes in the world.
The supply sub-contract involves the supply of : 20 km (65,600 ft) of DN 2450 mm ( 96”) pipe, 47 km (154,000 ft) of DN 3500 mm (107”) pipe and 1 km (3,300 ft) of DN 4000 mm (158”) pipe. Pipe supply is expected to start by the 4th quarter of this year. The $ 951 million EPIC project award was made in April of 2006 to Dubai-based Dodsal Pte Ltd.; part of India’s Dodsal Group.
The large diameter FRP pipe will be manufactured in FPI’s Qatar facilities with Engineering support from the group’s strategic partners; Dynaflow International Inc., who together will provide the client with an engineered pipe system solution. The project is unique in that a large portion of the piping will be installed above ground due to the rocky native soil conditions that makes excavating highway-sized trenches uneconomical.
