Fiberstrong™ filament-wound FRP pipe are the long term, reliable solution for Power plant piping. They are maintenance free and offer the lowest life-cycle cost compared with traditional steel or concrete pipes large diameter piping.
Fiberstrong gravity pipes for sea-water or river-water intakes are manufactured to ASTM D3262 specification in sizes from up to 158" (13 ft !) in diameter in 20 and 40 foot standard lengths. Marine harness lugs allow the joints to be made-up easily under water. Up to 3 x 40 ft sections may be pre-assembled to significantly reduce underwater installation time and costs
Future Pipe can also supply FRP flanged access man-ways and FRP bell mouths for your intake structures. Special Vinyl Ester based FRP chlorination piping installed internally or externally are available to provide a completely corrosion-free FRP system.
Pressure pipe for circulating water lines, outfall lines, blow down piping are manufactured to ASTM D3517 also in 20 and 40 foot lengths and in standard pressure classes from 50 psig up to 250 psig depending on size. FPI manufactures a complete range of fittings and flanges in all pressure classes and diameters.
Fiberstrong FRP pipe is also an ideal choice for Hydro-electric power plant penstocks, and can be installed above ground. Above ground Fiberstrong pipe are resistant to uV attack and are designed to remain exposed to sunlight for the design life of the piping system.
JOINTS
Standard underground Fiberstrong FRP pipes are supplied with Double bell coupling joints (see picture above). In addition, for pressure service, special restrained mechanical (locked) joints or laminated (Butt-wrap) joints may also be supplied to allow underground or aboveground installation without thrust blocks, at changes of direction and x-section. The elimination of thrust blocks can be a major advantage within the confined space of power or desalination plant sites. Contact the FPI sales office for details on size/pressure range available for restrained joint systems. FPI can supply internal joint testers to allow large diameter joints to be hydrostatically tested immediately following assembly and before backfilling to insure the assembled joint is water-tight.
