Future pipe manufactures a wide range of piping for use in wet FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) systems. Wet FGD scrubbers remove harmful pollutants from flue gases of coal and oil fired power plants. Most new coal fired power plants are now fitted with wet FGD systems and older plants are being retrofitted with FGD systems under current EPA mandates. In Europe our FPI's GRE piping has been in use in FGD systems for over 13 years. These wet systems transport Limestone slurries that are abrasive by nature. Many factors affect abrasion such as fluid/slurry velocity, type of suspended solids and their concentration and piping configuration.
Abrasion resistant Fiberglass piping are now the material of choice in leading FGD technologies. Piping inside the absorber tower subjected to the slurry spray can also be provided with an external abrasion-resistant protective layer.
FPI manufactures a wide range of Fiberglass pipe and fittings that provide excellent abrasion resistance. Pipes and fittings can be supplied with proprietary additives & thick liners; typically 80-100 mil (2.0 - 2.5 mm), where extra abrasion resistance is required.
In terms of the base resins, tests conducted by independent laboratories have shown the resistance of filament wound Fiberglass pipe in ascending order of abrasion resistance as follows:
- Lowest: UP (Unsaturated Polyester)
- Better: VE (Vinyl Ester)
- Best: E (Epoxy)
For very high abrasion-resistance service, FPI provides a filament-wound Fiberglass Reinforced Epoxy piping system that incorporates a minimum 80 mil (2 mm) thick, proprietary abrasion resistant liner with Nexus® type surface reinforcement. 100 mil (2.5 mm) thick liners are also available.
The complete piping system includes filament-wound flanges in all sizes, smooth radius filament-wound elbows, tees, and reducers, all in sizes up to 24 inch (600 mm) all with adhesive taper Bell ends.
Mitered GRE fittings are supplied for larger sizes up to 36 inch with plain ends (PE) for Butt & Wrap (lamination) type joints. Pressure ratings up to 350 psig (25 bars) are available for sizes up to 24 inch (600 mm) and 175 psig (12.5 bars) for larger sizes.
For piping sizes from 36 inch (900 mm) up to 144 inch (3650 mm) a Vinyl ester based filament wound Fiberglass piping system (GRV) is provided with the same liner as described above, with Butt & Wrap joints. Pressure ratings up to 175 psig (12 bars) are available.
FPI can supply as a special-order VE or Epoxy based Fiberglass pipe and fittings with liners thicker than 100 mil (>2.5 mm). Consult FPI on availability of these systems. Pipe and fittings with liners thicker than 100 mil (>2.5 mm) are provided with plain ends (PE) and are joined using a Butt & Wrap type joint.
SPOOLING SERVICES
Future pipe Industries operates a large spool shop in its Gulfport, MS facility to pre-assemble complex piping arrangements. Spooling minimizes field (site) joints and allows for rapid installation on the job site. Individual spools are fabricated to exact dimensions and tight tolerances from the Client’s drawings.
